Duh, sometimes I am just not that smart! I find myself this particular Friday afternoon more tired than usual. Normally I can sit at my desk and listen to the peculiar mix of music I get off Pandora by grouping Ozzy and Herb Albert, without any problem. But today they seem to far apart and it’s got me confused. I know it’s the hours I have been keeping lately. I’ve been testing some new strategies and working through the Forexecutor’s Tick Back Test Lab. I got a little carried away and started a Tick Back Test 6 months long. I know, I know, that’s too long and it takes about three and a half hours to run one , but I just wasn’t getting enough trades in the shortened time spans to make me happy, and once you do the EUR pairs you have to do all the GBP pairs too. Impatient and tired I made a few bad decisions. At least I wasn’t making trading decisions. Or so I thought. Then I took a hit. Nothing major, I entered a trade in the wrong direction. I was lucky enough to know that when that happens, just pay the spread and get out. I learned that the hard way years ago. So there I was out the spread and a few points on the trade and I have one of those “OH YEA” moments. I am only 40 so in actuality I’m not that smart and according to my wife, when we go shopping it’s like taking one of the kids. So when I have those moments I try to write them in my trading journal so I can learn from them later. Well the realization that came to me was that I had done the same thing in back testing that I had done as a new trader. I would get over excited and try to load too much on, and it burned me out. Not only did it affect me physically, but emotionally as well. I either become paralyzed or schizo. Made poor decisions, wrecked your car, burned out at work or one of the other million things that can happen to me when you are tired and all hyped up about something. So tonight I am going turn the computer off, take a nap for a few hours and then go see a movie. Because to tell you the truth, there really is nothing better than going from “For Those About to Rock” “Love is Blue” to keep your day balanced and on track.
