The indicator gets its name because it is a triple EMA that is used to gauge trends. The best part of the indicator is that it tends to filter out lot of the whip of normal MA crossing systems. The filtering capability of the Trix and the feeling that it sometimes leads the market is what makes it so popular.
In the following example, the breakout of the EUR/USD last year is clearly seen. Following the logical progression of the indicator, (A) price breaks trend line and closes below after the cross down of the Trix, (B) crosses the Resistance line but doesn’t close above it, then (C) crosses down, and we look for a close below the support line to trade the Trix cross.
After the Trix Crosses and the support line is broken the fall happens in short order.
